Nuclear Radiation New Baby Make Men More

Munich, baby's sex is determined from the chromosome carried by both parents. But studies show that nuclear radiation occur can make the number of babies born more male than female infants. Why is that?

A new study shows that radiation leaks from nuclear power stations could make fewer female births worldwide. This means it will make the number of men will be more than women.

"Tests show that radiation can cause damage to the X chromosome in the sperm," explained Dr. Hagen Scherb, author of the study and biostatistician at the Germany Research Center for Environmental Health, Munich, as reported by Dailymail, Tuesday (07/06/2011).

Dr. Scherb explains, human sperm cells contain chromosomes Y and X chromosomes, whereas egg cells contain only the X chromosome An XY chromosome combination will make the sex of a baby boy and a baby girl XX combination.

When the X chromosome in the sperm were damaged due to nuclear radiation, the possibility of sperm cells contain only the Y chromosome that eventually led to a combination of XY or the birth of a baby boy into more.

The scientists recorded the type of nuclear radiation as the Chernobyl disaster or Fukushima will not only affect birth in the area, but also occur throughout the world.

To prove it, scientists at the Helmholtz Zentrum Munich, Germany, analyzed data on population of the United States and 39 European countries.

As a result, there is an increasing number of baby boys relative to girls in all countries in the years 1964-1975. And also there was an increase in many Eastern European countries for several years after 1986 (Chernobyl disaster).

The scientists saw the first spike occurred in the 1960s and 1970s in which radioactive atom 'condemned' atmosphere. Air flow capture these atoms and then distribute it worldwide. Scientists also discovered a second spike occurred after the Chernobyl disaster in 1986 when the nuclear reactor exploded in Ukraine.

"We do not know how much radioactivity emitted by Fukushima and how it will spread throughout the world. Maybe it was limited only in Japan, but if it is carried by water and air, maybe we could see a similar effect on the West Coast of America," said Dr. Scherb.
